Whether a bar may be considered beautiful or not is of course a matter for personal taste. For some it may be the location, for others the design, and for others the atmosphere that leads them to consider a bar a beautiful place. The name of Liverpool is famous the world over and is regarded as a cool place to begin with. Deciding on the most beautiful bars in the city is not easy, but here are a few that may be eligible:
The Philharmonic Dining Rooms
This magnificent Grade II listed building was built around 1898-1900 and stands almost opposite the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Commonly referred to as “The Phil”, this building was designed by Walter W. Thomas for Robert Cain, a local brewer.
The structure has many magnificent architectural features to the exterior including mullioned windows, architraves, turrets, gables and ogee domes. The interior is reached through fabulous metal gates rendered in Art Nouveau style. Interior decoration is on musical themes with decorated copper panels in repoussé, mosaics, ornate plasterwork and impressive renderings in mahogany and glass. The overall effect is to provide perhaps the most magnificent period setting to take a drink.
Any bar offering spectacular views across a city scores highly on a selection of beautiful places to drink and Panoramic 34 meets the criteria.
The cocktail lounge is part of one of the highest restaurants in the UK (it is 300 feet above sea level). The reason for the name is that the cocktail lounge sits on the 34th floor of the West Tower. A contemporary and subdued, yet also sophisticated design with complimentary furnishings such as leather tub chairs and atmospheric lighting provide a comfortable environment from which to enjoy the spectacular views across Liverpool. The ceilings to floor windows are perfect for viewing the famous river Mersey, city and the surrounding countryside.
Offering stylish surroundings on both rooftop and waterfront, Matou is literally a stone’s throw from the iconic Liver Building, one of Liverpool’s most famous pieces of architecture and recognised around the world. Matou is a pan-Asian restaurant and cocktail bar with lounge, situated right on the waterfront at Liverpool’s dock area. The building is high-tech contemporary in design and features an impressive terrace for taking drinks and al-fresco dining. This terrace affords the customer outstanding views across the city and water. The interior bar is all polished wood and lighting that creates a warm and energizing environment. This does not detract from the main feature of Matou which is its fabulous creation. Customers can wander and take in the outstanding docklands views and relax in the modern yet warm and unpretentious interior.
